(I accidentally bought the nearly-same model that was USB- powered only (it had no actual USB connection), before returning it for this one, so be careful if you happen to find yourself on this path.) Why not use a regular microphone attached to a regular sound device? Calibration. So, after a very small amount of research, I bought a cheap USB Sound Pressure Level ("SPL") meter. One thing that's been on my mind is "noise" around my house. I've been on a mini quest to instrument a bunch of real-life things, lately. Dived into some packet captures, learned some USB, wrote some code. TL DR: got some hardware that didn't have a driver I could use.
